I pick up Metalbeard’s Duel last week and was inspired to make a Mobile Frame version. Here is the result:
I didn’t have all the parts in the right colors at the moment, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I’ll definitely be replacing the Metalbeard yellow head with a more robot looking heading when I place my next Bricklink order.
The systems are:
- Scurvy Cannons (2 Rd Direct Fire)
- Pillaging Gauntlet (2 Rd Hand to Hand)
- Spotting Spyglass (1 Y Surveillance)
- Homing Robo-parrot (SSR)
I’m thinking of making a whole company of pirate themed Mobile Frames.
So I love the Chub! It’s design is so simple, yet it can be reskinned countless ways. Personally I think a unique head can turn a good design into a great design. Here are two head designs I’ve been tinkering with recently.
The first uses the popsicle part. I really like the shape of this head, I just wish that part came in non-transparent colors other than red, reddish brown and brown. Why no white one? Hasn’t anyone ever heard of vanilla popsicles?
This head is slightly on the large side for a chub, but I’ve found that large shoulder armor and/or slightly extended legs help. Also you could use one of the old 1 x 1 plate w clip light to make the design slightly narrower.
I really like this design, however the popsicle part is extremely expensive, especially in red.
Next is a design inspired by Ironsniper. I like this design because it’s easy to reskin the basic skeleton.
such as with metallic silver gold bar and 2 x 2 round tile
or replacing the expensive roller skates with transparent 1 x 1 rounds
or adding wrenches.
The roller skates are quite expensive, but they just look so darn cool.
Well that’s all for now.
