EDIT: Solved the problem, I have no idea why I didn’t think of that months ago.
EDIT: That’s the problem with designing mainly in Lego Digital Designer, you sometime create things that are impossible to brick up in the real world. This design is one of those cases. I’ll repost this design if I find a solution.
Sharpened Sticks posts will be about weapons designs. This time we’ll discuss the Fusion Edge, which for anyone who doesn’t know is basically a lightsaber for all intents and purposes.
I’ve seen a numbers of designs on the Mobile Frame Hangar forums and on the MFZ Flickr group. Some people use lightsaber handles and blades, or telescopes and antennas, and lastly clips holding tiles. The issue I have with blades and antennas is that they seem too short of a blade for your typical Chub-sized Mobile Frame, and it only gets worse on large frames. There’s nothing wrong with the clips holding tiles technique, but I’m personally not a fan of it.
So after a lot of tinkering in LDD here is my design (the one on the left):
The blade is significantly longer than the previous designs, and thicker which I’m ok with. I really like this design, and will be using in my United Mars Foreign Legion (UMFL) company. The thing that limits this design is that the parts that make the blade only comes in one transparent color: red.
Here’s a breakdown, if you don’t like the red technic axles you could cut down a transparent red 4L bar:
And here is a LDD mock up of UMFL Captain Tersa Juang striding across the battlefield, with her drawn fusion edge in hand.
That’s it for now.
